Über-producer Armando Iannucci talks to us about his new series The Thick of It.
One of the most lauded personalities of recent times in British comedy, Armando Iannucci was born in Glasgow in 1964.
After studying at the University of Glasgow and then University College, Oxford, he pursued a career in broadcasting. Working as a producer in BBC radio, early credits included Meanwhile in Glasgow, a comedic travelogue with Arnold Brown, and The Mary Whitehouse Experience.
He received widespread acclaim in 1991 with On The Hour, and followed the show's transfer to television as The Day Today.
Establishing a fruitful working relationship with Steve Coogan, Peter Baynham and Patrick Marber, he oversaw the creation and development of comedy character Alan Partridge, and turned performer himself with satirical show The Saturday Night Armistice.
More recently, he's received plaudits for devising and producing The Thick of It, while his spoof documentary, Time Trumpet, received rather more mixed reviews.
