Presenter/producer: Jo Reffin
Jo: This is Real English from BBC Learning English. I’m Jo.

Jean: And I’m Jean.

Jo: Today we’re going to look at words and phrases that have recently become part of the English language.

Jean: 在我们的《地道英语》节目中,我们将学到一些现代英国英语的新词汇和新说法。

Jo: Today’s new word is 'air rage'.

Jean: Air rage. What does that mean?

Jo: Air rage is an expression that means to lose your temper and become angry and violent on a plane.

Jean: 我知道了。Air Rage“空中愤怒”就是用来形容旅客在坐飞机的时候容易出现的愤怒甚至暴力的现象。That’s frightening. Is it common, Jo?

Jo: Unfortunately, it has become more and more common.

Insert

A: How was your flight?

B: Terrible! One of the passengers got drunk and had an attack of air rage. He tried to hit one of the stewardesses and had to be restrained until the plane landed!

Jean: Well, although I sometimes feel angry I would never actually attack anyone!

Jo: I should hope not!

Jean: Have you ever seen anything like this Jo?

Jo: Well, no, fortunately, but I have read about it in the newspapers. A whole family was banned by one airline after they attacked their fellow passengers. They were all drunk, apparently.

Jean: Perhaps banning alcohol on flights might be the answer.

Jo: Maybe, but if they did that I would never be able to get to sleep!

Jean: Yes, you’re right! And sometimes you need a strong drink if you are a nervous passenger!

Jo: I can’t believe you get nervous flying, Jean!

Jean: Only sometimes – it depends who I’m flying with! 好啦,让我们再来回顾一下今天学到的新词吧 – air rage – 空中愤怒,形容乘客在坐飞机的时候易怒易出现暴力的现象。Well, it looks like we are out of time again.

Jo: Yes, it’s time to go. You’ve been listening to Real English from BBC Learning English. Join us again soon for more up-to-the-minute Real English. Bye.

Jean: See you next time.
