John: This is Real English from BBC Learning English. I’m John. Jean: And I’m Jean. John: Today we’re going to look at words and phrases that have recently become part of the English language. John: It’s very important to stay up-to-date with English as new words and expressions enter the language all the time. John: Today’s expression is ‘video diary’. Jean: Video diary. John: Well, a diary is a book in which you write down your thoughts, what has happened that day. John: Yes, and video diary is the same thing, but you film yourself instead. John: Some TV shows use them, like on reality TV. It’s like a private look at what the person is thinking and feeling. A: How was your trip around Australia? B: Brilliant! I kept a video diary. Would you like to watch it? Jean: Do you keep a diary? John: No, but perhaps I will open a video diary. Jean: Really? John: Yes. It would be interesting to look at in years to come. Jean: Yes. John: And a video diary would be more interesting than reading. Jean: Any diary of yours would be interesting! John: Yes, but I might not let you watch it! And that’s all we have time for today. John: Yes, that’s all. Thanks for listening. You’ve been listening to Real English from BBC Learning English. Join us again soon for more up-to-the-minute Real English. Bye. Jean: See you next time. |
