Free Kick Baffles Pardew 任意球困惑 Pardew

A football player prepares for a free kick
Free kicks can be nerve-racking
Charlton's new boss, Alan Pardew was denied a win 与胜利擦肩而过 at Fulham when the referee awarded a free kick 任意球 to Fulham.

This led to a goal by Franck Queudrue.

Pardew was baffled 困惑,不明白 by the free-kick to Fulham, which should have been a Charlton throw-in 界外球.

Pardew baffled
I'm absolutely disgusted. We were two minutes away from ecstasy but we feel deflated.

Alan Pardew, Charlton manager

This was Pardew’s reaction:

"Disgusted" 令人难以致信,使厌恶 means shocked and ill because something is so unpleasant. "Ecstasy" 欣喜若狂 is a feeling of great happiness.

"Deflated" 令人丧气 literally means when you let the air out of a balloon or tyre. The feeling of being deflated is when you are very disappointed.

It led to Chris Coleman's side scoring an equaliser 扳平比分的一球 in stoppage time 伤停补时. The result was a 2-2 draw.

Fulham manager Chris Coleman had sympathy for Charlton over the free kick decision.

Sympathetic Coleman
I think we earned a bit of fortune. To score when we did was a tough blow for Charlton but it was a good point for us.

Chris Coleman, Fulham manager

"Fortune" in this context means great luck. A "tough blow" 沉重打击 here means an event which causes a damage or sadness and disappointment.
