Children's Television

Specific programmes for young audiences have been broadcast on the BBC for over 60 years. As you can imagine, things have changed over the years - the way programmes are made, the way they look and the way they sound.

When children's programmes were first shown, there was only one BBC channel. Children waited eagerly at lunchtimes and after school for programmes to come on.

Most adults you speak to in the UK these days will remember these programmes they used to watch with great fondness. And there are so many classic programmes that were made.

Things are a lot different now of course, as we have digital TV. The BBC has its own channel dedicated to showing children's TV programmes all day. Children can watch programmes pretty much any time they want to.

Listen to Jo's programme to find out more about how children's television has developed over the years.
