Vicki: Hello, this is Real English from BBC Learning English, I’m Vicki. Lilly: And I’m 杨莉莉. Hello! Vicki: In Real English, we look at words and phrases that you might not find in your dictionary. Vicki: Today’s expression is last…minute. Last-minute. Vicki: Well, kind of. It means at the very last moment. The latest possible time you could do something. Vicki: Well, let’s say I’m going on holiday tomorrow but I still need to buy a few things today. It’s quite late to be preparing for my holiday tomorrow so I might say – I have some last-minute shopping to do. Vicki: Let’s hear some more examples shall we? Insert A: I thought you couldn’t get tickets for the flight? B: Well there was a last-minute cancellation, so we’re leaving tomorrow. Vicki: Yes, you always leave it til the last minute! Do you often leave things til the last minute Lilly? Lilly: Unfortunately yes – all the time. My Mum always used to say to me – why do you always leave things til the last minute? Vicki: I’m quite bad at getting things done on time too. If I have an exam, I always leave studying until the last minute. And if I have a birthday present to buy I always forget… Lilly: And you have to go out and do some last-minute shopping! You’re just like me! Vicki: So we’re both last-minute people! Anyway, that’s today’s expression last-minute. And that’s all we have time for today. Vicki: Yes, you’ve been listening to Real English from BBC Learning English. We’ll see you next time. Lilly: 再见! |
