Helen: Hello, this is Real English from BBC Learning English, I’m Helen. Zoë: 还有我，刘佳。欢迎收听地道英语。 Helen: In Real English, we look at words and phrases that you might not find in your dictionary. Helen: Today’s a little bit different because we have two phrases to describe the same thing. Zoë: Sounds interesting. What is it? Helen: Well, today’s first word is cashpoint. C.A.S.H.P.O.I.N.T. Zoë: 是把cash和point放在一起了吗？ Helen: Exactly – cash and point. Zoë: 那什么是a cashpoint? Helen: A cashpoint is a machine outside or near a bank which allows you to take money from your account. Zoë: 哦，明白了。A cashpoint 就是一台自动取款机。 Helen: Exactly, put your card in, enter your secret number, and you can take out money. Insert A: Oh, I haven’t got any money on me. B: Don’t worry. We can go to a cashpoint. There are lots of cashpoints on the High Street. Zoë: Now Helen, didn’t you say that we had two phrases today? Helen: Well remembered, Zoë. In the UK we have another slang name for a cashpoint. We call it a hole in the wall. Hole. In. The. Wall. Zoë: Hole in the wall. 墙里的一个洞？这也说的是自动取款机吗？ Helen: Yes, but many people call a cashpoint a hole in the wall because they are usually built into the outer wall of a bank.
