An interesting history and an interesting name, but let's hope you don't have to go there!

When I watch the TV news, I often see the words "Scotland Yard" - it's hard to connect this word with police station. May I know the history of this name?   Zhao Liyun, Beijing

If you listen to, or watch, the news you might have heard of Scotland Yard in the UK. It's connected with the British police and in this Ask About Britain programme you can find out exactly what it is.

The history behind the name is also very interesting. We spoke to Alan Moss, who used to be a policeman working at Scotland Yard and now runs a website about the history of it and the history of the police in general.
