Charity 慈善募捐

A two pence piece
Every penny counts to help charities

Why are the British so generous and give money to charities even when they are short of money themselves?

Wang Zhi Yang, Shenyang

There are millions of charities or charitable organizations in the UK. In fact, you can hardly think of any good cause that doesn't have a charity linked to it.

Oxfam; Cancer Research; the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children(NSPCC) and the Royal society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals(RSPCC) are just a few of the big names that most people are familiar with.

It is true that British people do give money to charities but there are many different reasons why people are doing so.

Listen to Lily's report and do the quiz. Afterwards you can take a quiz based on what you've heard.
