What is 'Voices'? Voices is about hearing stories from people in Wisbech North. It's an opportunity to make radio, TV and online features about your area and your lives. Everyone is invited to get involved. There will be opportunities to put loads of stuff on local TV, BBC Radio Cambridgeshire (95.7 FM and 1026 AM) and on THIS website about Wisbech.
Why did the BBC choose Wisbech? The BBC chose Wisbech because we don't come there often enough. We don't know enough about the area. At the moment, we only usually come to Wisbech when there is bad news to report.
What will happen?
 | Catherine helping out at half-term! | What happens is really up to you, and the stories you want to tell. Catherine Carr will be around a lot, especially from April until the end of June.
Sessions can be organised when you can learn to make your stories into radio, TV or online features.
In April 2003, a temporary radio station was installed in the Community House - linked to the BBC. In June, the BBC will be broadcasting from the Community House for a weekend on 1026 AM.
Here are some of the things that have already happened:
 | Hundreds of plants were planted! |
An amazing groundforce-style garden make-over took place at the end of April. The Community House Garden was transformed from a huge over-grown area to a bright, green and accessible place for everyone to enjoy. Take a look at a special photo gallery and see the garden transform before your eyes! Getting a better place to play football: One of the main things that the children in Wisbech North would like more then anything is a better place to play football. Work is under way to organise some proper fencing and goal-posts for the green in Lime Avenue. Find out how things are progressing » Ideas for future projects:
Someone said St Augustine's and Gordon Fendick's schools are joining, and that it could be fun to celebrate - perhaps a time capsule could be made? We could talk to old pupils, you could take digital photos of Wisbech, or video a family talking about their memories. Maybe we could organise a day to celebrate? Teachers, parents, children and residents can get together to say how they think we should do it.
 | Half-term fun at the Oasis Centre | These examples are quite big, but smaller things like doing DIY, a new baby, a great weekend, a wedding, a funeral or a birthday party, even a visit to the opticians are great stories. You could also think about who you'd like to interview on air… do you have anything to ask the council?
What's the point? The point is to find out more about the area. It is to have fun and it is to make contacts with people who really know what is going on in Wisbech North. It is also a chance to celebrate the good things that are happening there. After June, we want to hear a lot more from the people we have met who live in Wisbech North.
