TRASH!

When you wheel your rubbish bin out for collection, the thought of its contents being transformed into art probably doesn't cross your mind. Well, that's where Haddenham Galleries step in...

Don't bung your rubbish in the bin - hang it on your wall, instead!

Now, we're not suggesting that last night's pork chop could ever sit comfortably next to a Hockney, but with a little inspiration and a lot of talent, a group of artists are taking the green message to new heights.

Haddenham Galleries' latest exhibition is, quite literally, a load of old rubbish. TRASH is a collection of inspiring works ranging from jewellery to sculpture to wall hangings - and everything is made from recycled materials.

Artists have produced jewellery made from plastic, boats made from driftwood, installation pictures made from burnt paper and plastic bag murals.

Mathew Brown: recycled art
Boat, by Mathew Brown

Haddenham Galleries has been a real eco-venue for years now, touting its green policy by using recycled packaging and carrier bags made from newspaper by Indian street children.

As well as TRASH, showing in the art gallery, there's also the Ethnic Gallery - a recognised Fair Trade shop - which has toys made from drink cans and chickens fashioned from plastic bag.

If the weather stays good, you can also wander around the the sculpture garden where you'll see examples of eco-build and a nature hide made from entirely from straw bales.

See? It may not be easy being green - but it CAN be fun - and pretty, too!
