Pam Ann

Prepare for Pam Ann lift-off

By Paul Seagrove
Fasten your seatbelts...and brace yourself for some turbulence along the way. Pam Ann is landing at a venue near you...and she wants you to join her on a flight to...paradise.

Pam Ann live!

  • Thursday 31st May, 2007. Broadway Theatre, Peterborough, 8pm. Box office 01733 316100.

We caught up with comedian Pam Ann (aka Caroline Reid) during her current busy tour of the UK.

Where did the idea of a trolley-dolly stand up come from?

The airline thing was a bit of a fluke really. I dressed up as a flight attendant for one of my birthday parties - a Pan American flight attendant. Later that night I thought someone had called me Pam Ann and I thought that's a really good name. I really liked their name, their logo and that 60's Jetset lifestyle so it was born out of a night partying really!

When you take a flight, are you looking around and noting anything you can use in your acts?

Whenever I take a flight I make sure I've got a little notepad and I'll just write little things down. Even in the airport, just watching people. People say why do you go to the airport so early - I just love it, I could sit there for hours (laughter).

What's the inspiration behind Mona, the British Airways bitch?

I fly BA all the time to Australia (where Caroline was born and raised). It's my chosen airline to fly to be honest. I think they're the best airline and I guess I've always come across those women on those flights. They're always old school and they're always matter of fact. It's a generalisation but I'm poking fun at those ‘horsey’ types that live in Chiswick really.

Do you have any sympathy for airline crews?

Pam Ann

Oh yes, they've got to put up with a lot of idiots! Just the public in general...are just a nightmare. The tolerance some of them have is pretty good. I'd just slap them! (Laughs) I suppose that's why Pam Ann is someone they enjoy because she just says what she thinks. I think they would love to be able to do that.

How did you go down when Sir Elton John asked you to fly with him and his guests?

That was back in 2002 I think. It was for David Furnish's 40th birthday party. He (Elton) thought it would be good if Pam Ann was crewing the plane so I pretty much abused them all! These big stars and multi-millionnaires. They'd kind of say Pam...and I'd turn round and say shut up!

I suppose they found that quite refreshing?

I know...I think that was why it worked so well. They just enjoyed being spoken to like that. It was fantastic... an amazing experience.

You've introduced some new characters for your current show?

Yes... it's a longer show. You've got Pam for the first half and then in the second half I introduce Valerie from American Airlines - she's quite scary actually. She can't wait to tell you her disaster horror stories! Sarah's from Virgin Atlantic - she's kind of that dizzy blonde. The girls are all hot on Virgin and she's kind of a bit porn! Mona...she's British Airways – ‘horsey’ - you see a different side to her. They're alone a lot of the time, the crews, between flights. She's all about getting old and a ‘has-been’ and still got no one special in her life (laughs). And then there's Donna from Easyjet who's like from that spoof airline show. She deals with a couple of people in the audience... oh and there's lot more videos.

Catch the show...

You can catch Pam Ann live at the Broadway Theatre in Peterborough on May 31st (Box Office 01733 316100).

Saw Pam Ann (for the first time) at the Lowry Centre in Salford. She's a a loud, in your face brash type who [makes fun] out of airline staff, oh and she wears far too much makeup. I absolutely LOVE HER! She's the balliest female comedienne I've seen in like, my whole life! Go see!

I saw Pam Ann in Melbourne, Australia, what a wonderful performer, just a breath of fresh air and so so funny!

I saw Pam Ann in Derby a few weeks ago. That was the first time I had heard of her. What a fab show, she is brilliant, could have seat and listened to her for hours.Had just come back from India the day before and the crew in premier class, what a lot of ******* they where. As soon as I had sat down the girl told me she was in no mood for this 11 hour flight, and hoped that we would all go to sleep. So seeing Pam the next night had me in stitches. I told all my friends what they had missed. [Edited comment]
