| More Info | Each day in the UK, 6 teenagers are diagnosed with cancer – that is over 2,200 new cases every year. Cancer is the most common cause of non-accidental death in teens and young adults in the UK. Teenagers contract some of the most aggressive cancers that are made worse by their growth spurts. The Cambridge Catwalk Fashion Show on Friday 10th November is a glitzy affair bringing the catwalk vibe of Paris and Milan to the Corn Exchange in Cambridge. You've all seen Victoria Beckham, Stella McCartney and Madonna - shades on and sitting pretty in the front row of the fashion houses, sipping champagne and schmoozing at the eye-candy on stage... well, now it's your turn. You can enjoy the champagne sensation whilst bedecked in your faux fur as seasoned models display the latest offerings from the hottest young designers from Cambridge University, the College of West Anglia and a whole host of others. Joining the seasoned set are four of the very latest, yet to be discovered, region's young models. They're four teenagers, currently in remission from cancer, who'll be walking the walk alongside the rest of the models, providing the evening with its sparkle. | | Strike a pose... |
The whole evening is raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust which aims to install a unit dedicated to teenagers suffering and recovering from cancer at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge. Currently there are no specialist facilities for teenagers with cancer in the East of England and Cambridge Catwalk are hoping to help change that. We spoke to Cambridge father, Michael Callaghan earlier in the year, who lost his teenage daughter, Rachel, to cancer and is also raising funds for Teenage Cancer Trust: "Teenagers, are young adults and it's a lot nicer for them to be treated not amongst babies or the elderly, but where they can have their peers around them. The units have their own space and things that they're interested in; games, coffee areas etc; geared to what they want rather than tiny chairs and toddlers running around." So, to help achieve the aims of Cambridge Catwalk and Teenage Cancer Trust, all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the show... and it promises to be a pretty stunning show at that!
