And some great supporting acts have also been announced including compelling composer Craig Armstrong; Mike Skinner's collaborator Kevin Mark Trail; Bristol act Kosheen and Newport crew Goldie Lookin' Chain.
More than 20,000 fans gathered in Queen Square last August as Massive Attack came home for what was probably the gig of the year.
It had been billed as a homecoming and lived up to it for both the crowd and the band.
"There's only one city in the world I'd live in - f*** Paris, f*** New York - it's Bristol," stated Robert Del Naja.
Since playing in Bristol last year the band has been touring the world from South America to Europe and will even be playing in Beirut in July.
They'll be at the Bristol Ampitheatre on Monday 2nd August along with support Craig Armstrong and Kevin Mark Trail.
 | | Groove Armada come to Bristol |
Meanwhile, Andy Cato and Tom Findlay from Groove Armada have also been having a busy year - with Andy even running the 2004 London Marathon for Oxfam.
Based round the instrumental and production skills of the duo, Groove Armada has proved one of the most consistent British dance acts of recent years.
Refreshingly eclectic, they're said to be happy to make music for both the dance floor and the sofa.
The band was named after a club the duo used to run, called Captain Sensual at the Helm of the Groove Armada.
Yorkshire man Andy Cato used to play trombone in a brass band and is a former Young Jazz Musician of the Year, while Tom hails from Cambridge and used to work in public relations.
The pair can be seen on stage at Canon's Marsh on Tuesday 3rd August with support from Bristol's own Kosheen. | | Good Luck from Basement Jaxx for Euro 2004 |
Meanwhile, Basement Jaxx will be playing in Chicago, Las Vegas and other US venues in July, before reaching the dizzy heights of their Bristol concert on Wednesday 4th August.
The respected, UK-based DJing and production duo comprises Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe.
And if it wasn't enough that they are coming to Bristol, football fans may find themselves assailed by the duo's music during Euro 2004.
A new instrumental re-edit of their song Good Luck has been chosen as the BBC's Match of the Day theme tune during the tournament.
Let's hope they turn up on time for their Bristol concert though - they won the prize for Best Dance at the Brit Awards, but apparently had to be prodded to go up on stage because they weren't paying attention.
And if they don't there's always supporting act Goldie Lookin' Chain to look forward to! Tickets are available from Way Ahead (020 7403 3331) and Stargreen (020 7734 8932), also available online at www.gigsandtours.com. Tickets are priced at £23.50. All tickets are subject to a booking fee. Competition
And so to our competition where we have one pair of tickets for each of the three gigs up for grabs.
To stand a chance of winning you just need to answer the following question: Which local band, fronted by a blonde named Alison, supported Massive Attack at their Queen Square concert last year.
The competition has now closed. |
