| | From the West End of London, on it's UK Tour, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, has stopped off at Bradford's Alhambra theatre for one week only. This not to be missed, Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Tim Rice classic, proves to be just the ticket, if your looking for a fantastic, family night out. Opening night, on Monday 18th July, saw the Bradford audience on its feet dancing in the aisles throughout the encore. People just couldn't help getting to their feet or singing along with the cast as the audience demanded encore after encore. The show proved to be a smash hit with every generation in the audience. With everything from a colourful Caribbean number to a wild country western tune, there was simply something for everyone.
The astounding orchestra opened the performance with a medley of the musical's many songs, creating an exciting atmosphere as everyone waited for the musical to commence. The lively telling of the story then began, based on the biblical story of Joseph and his 11 brothers, their jealousy, and ability to believe in your dreams and succeed.
The show was packed with amusing touches that had everyone in stitches. Dean Nolan, playing Napthali, one of Joseph's brothers and also the baker, added great comedy value, as well as Joseph, himself played by Graham Tudor. A favourite character with all was the Elvis style pharaoh performed by Marlon Moore, whose pelvic wiggles had the audience in fits of giggles.
The vocal talent on show was unbelievable; Abigail Jaye, playing the narrator, had an exceptional voice, and Graham Tudor as Joseph, showed off his wide range of vocals throughout numbers such as Close Every Door and Any Dream Will Do. I couldn't find fault with anything everything from the choreography to the costumes was spot on.
This spectacular musical is the perfect recipe for a night of family fun. The show came to an end with a rapturous applause that threatened to raise the roof. I heard one member of the audience say the worst part of the production was that it had to come to an end. This energetic musical is simply a must for everybody. Emma Walker Joseph and the Amazing colour Dreamcoat continues at the Alhambra in Bradford until Joly 23rd. |
