Daniel Payne grabbed a second after a poor clearance allowed him to shoot low under the keeper's body, 0-2. He added a third just before half time when he gathered the ball on the edge of the penalty area, turned and hit a powerful shot into the bottom corner of the net, half time 0-3. Kirkburton A 6Â Shelf A 1 (Under 8s - 27th October 2007)Another excellent win for Kirkburton A against a strong Shelf team. Shelf were on the back foot from the start when Kieran Taylor broke the deadlock after a couple of minutes. He won the ball on the edge of the box and hit an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net, 1-0. This was followed moments later by a second goal for Kieran when he broke down the left, cut inside on to his right foot and hit a low shot which went in off the post, 2-0. Rastrick A 0Â Kirkburton A 4 (Under 8s)Kirkburton A overcame a strong Rastrick team on a bumpy surface and did not concede a goal in the process. Not conceding a goal was the main focus before the start and the team worked well defensively with good support play throughout the game. There was only one goal in a tight first half. Kieran Taylor took the ball on the right hand side of the area, dribbled on to his left foot and struck a fine shot into the top left hand corner of the net. Kirkburton had a number of chances after that but failed to convert them. Half time 0-1. Kirkburton came out for the second half and started brightly. They were soon 0-2 up when Harvey Kaye, who, after trying (and missing) an attempted volley, had a second chance by hitting the ball off the defenders leg and into the net. Again, Kirkburton missed several chances until after ten minutes when they scored from a corner. Kieran floated the ball in from the left and Robert Clayton was there to meet the ball with a close range header, 0-3. The fourth and final goal was converted by Harvey when he was not closed down quick enough and hit the ball under the keepers arms, final score 0-4. Man of the match - Harvey Kaye. Rastrick B 1 Kirkburton B 4 (Under 8s)Following on from the success of the 'A' team the 'B' team came away with another convincing win. It was open play for the first five minutes, then the deadlock was broken when Daniel Heppenstall was put through for a one-on-one with the keeper, he slipped the ball under his body, 0-1. A lack of concentration led to Rastrick scoring an equaliser. Two on one with the last man led to s shot which was saved, however, the rebound fell to the other striker who stroked the ball home, 1-1. Kirkburton picked themselves up again and managed to regain the lead when Daniel Payne dribbled the ball to the edge of the area and poked the ball home from close range, half time, 1-2. The second half started well for Kirkburton as they scored straight from the kick off. Some poor defending by the home team allowed Joel Sykes to score from close range, 1-3.
