Emma and her mates at Old Trafford

A belter of a win for the Bulls!

by our Blast reporter Emma Wroe
This weekend I went on a bit of a trek to see the Bradford Bulls take on the Leeds Rhinos in the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford in Manchester! What an experience - I can tell ya that much...

I personally aren't a big rugby fan, and I had never been to a match in my life, never mind a Grand Final, although I grasped the opportunity to go as soon as it arrived. This is what the BBC does to you, people - be warned you end up taking yourself places you'd never think of. Anyway, I had to go Leeds V Bradford. Eh, there's a bit of rivalry there...

So off I trotted. The mates who I went with were in fact Leeds supporters - they all come from Bradford but we won’t go into that. To be honest I wasn't really going to support a certain team because I'd been told they were both pretty good, plus I didn't know much about rugby, so I just decided to cheer when anything good happened!

Fireworks at the Grand Final
After the fireworks...

Anyway we did the whole deal, coached it there from Leeds and arrived in Manchester around 12 - this seemed rather strange as the match didn't kick off till 6pm! I was in for a treat! We got off the coach and strolled around for a bit.

At about 5pm we decided to set off to the ground. There were no Bulls supporters to be seen, just a sea of blue and yellow shirts. I was a little confused but Leeds really did seem to have the majority..

After a bit of a sing song on t' tram, ‘We are Leeds, Leeds, Leeds’ I did feel sorry for the locals I must admit! I'm sorry Manchester! We got there, wandered in to the ground and had to queue for about three quarters of an hour to get served before the game. Bought a few pies and a few bevvies and we were set up!

Grand Final action
It all started to make sense...

We went into the arena just as they were kicking off. It truly is a breathtaking sight, all them people -owwf! I picked up what rugby was about after a few minutes and kinda understood the idea that ya just had to run with the ball over the line. I was told it wasn't a reet good match but I found it interesting all the same, and all the Leeds supporters sat around me didn't look right happy.

Leeds got further behind and in the second-half they didn’t do any better - the score was 15-6 to Bulls in the end. They may have had fewer supporters there but that obviously didn’t matter on the pitch.

All in all it was a fantastic day out. After the game my mates drowned their sorrows in a small karaoke bar where I spent most the night in fits of laughter. I'll definitely go next year and maybe by then I'll know a little more about rugby!
