Why We Stopped The Blog... and why we're restarting.

Dan DamonDan Damon|12:19 UK time, Wednesday, 6 June 2007

After a few months, we began to have enormous trouble with spam on the blog responses - so much that the sensible comments from some were getting ignored because of the thousands of offers for performance enhancing drugs and Russian brides.

It seemed to me that a blog is not meant to be a newsletter, however fascinating I think my life and family might be. Without interactivity it wasn't working.

Now we can reintroduce the interactivity, with the help of the BBC's increasingly productive UGC deparment.

UGC of course stands for User Generated Content.

That department can now provide contacts with sensible people using the Internet to debate important issues. That's what we're going to use this blog for.

The first debate will be on the future of air travel, as another airport expansion proposal is under discussion in the UK.

That World Update debate starts next Monday.

Your comments will be moderated, so no Russian brides please - unless they are also experts in the environmental and social impact of aviation.
