J Street: A new approach to Middle East peace?
As Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu returns home 'disgraced' from his US visit this week, it is obvious there are major disagreements between the two countries. In his article about the growing distance between the two allies, Chris McGreal mentions an organisation called J Street, which has broken "the taboo against criticising Israeli policy". Who are they?
J Street say they represent Americans who support Israel and who want a peaceful solution to the Palestinian-Israel conflict. They have over 160 advisers, including former ambassadors, rabbis, professors, writers and a Nobel Laureate. Here's the people who work for them.
What do they do?
They lobby the US political community to promote American leadership in ending the Palestinian-Israel conflict peacefully and they encourage debate among the American Jewish community.
We'll be speaking to Jeremy Ben Ami, their Executive Director, on our programme.
Is it time for the US and Israel to change their approach to Middle East Peace? Are J Street the people to make this happen? Post your comments and questions for Jeremy Ben Ami here.
