Chirac, Bush, Mugabe, Mubarak?

Peter van Dyk|09:28 UK time, Monday, 12 March 2007

Oh, and self-censorship within the arts. And of course what you want to talk about today. Or later in the week. Or next January if you can think that far ahead. Really, all suggestions are welcome.

So, first up we wonder about this comment in yesterday's Observer by Nick Cohen, challenging artists, writesr and academics to have some prinicples. Are the inteligentsia afraid of upsetting Muslims?

In Zimbabwe, Presient Robert Mugabe has said he will run for yet another six-year term as president. And a spokesman for Zimbabwe's opposition says its leader Morgan Tsvangirai has been badly beaten by police. Should we try to speak to anyone who attended the rally where it all kicked off?

On to France - President Jacques Chirac has confirmed he will step down at the end of his term. What has he done for France? Do you want to pass judgment on his decades in politics? Ros likes the idea of recording people saying "the thing I'll remember most about Chirac's time in politics is..."

US President George Bush continues his tour of Latin America. It's fair to say he has not been universally welcomed. What do people there think of his visit? And what do Americans think of the reception he's received?

The 22-year-old former Al Azhar University student, Kareem Nabeel Sulaiman is expected to return to an Alexandria court today for his appeal against a four-year sentence for defaming Islam and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on his personal blog.

Continuing the insulting the boss theme, here's also a Swiss man in Thailand who drunkenly spray-painted portraits of the Thai king and faces jail for insulting the monarch.
