A birthday, an earthquake, a gay singer
Good morning everyone, what should we talk about today? Ghanaians have been up all night celebrating 50 years of independence from Britain.
Has the country (and the rest of Africa which threw off colonial rule in the decades that followed) made the most of independence?
Perhaps you want to talk about the planet's latest natural disaster? A powerful earthquake has killed at least 70 people in Indonesia, with hundreds injured by collapsing buildings.
What about the decision by Hamas to ban a book of folk tales from classrooms in the Palestinian Territories, reportedly over sexual inuendo in the text? Is this the first major sign of a more Islamic approach to governing?
Something else we're wondering about is what might happen to a Mexican pop singer who has told fans he is gay. Is that it for his recording career? Or will it not make any difference?
