A fresh start

Peter van Dyk|09:16 UK time, Thursday, 4 May 2006

It feels like a while since we've not had at least one thing planned in advance for the programme (and we've already got tomorrow figured out) but today we have a clean slate. So what do you want to talk about?

Top of the news this morning is Al-Qaeda plotter Zacarias Moussaoui getting life in jail - not the death penalty - for his part in the September 11 attacks. Do you think the jury was right?

Another question for you: should governments pay ransom for kidnap victims? Two Germans have been released after 99 days in captivity in Iraq - Iraq's envoy in Berlin believes the German government paid to secure their release.

We might go to Serbia to get reaction to the European Union's decision to call off talks on closer ties. Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica says the move will damage his country. Will it? Is the EU right to take action over Serbia's failure to arrest fugitive war crimes suspect Ratko Mladic and hand him over to The Hague tribunal?

And we are going to set Kevin a challenge today: The Committee to Protect Journalists has issued a list of its most-censored countries. Can Kevin talk to one person in each country on the top ten before we go to air? We won't let him use BBC contacts or resources - except this blog - but if you can help, please get in touch.

And tune in at 1700 GMT to find out how he gets on.

Anyway, those are our initial thoughts - we'll let you know what we end up going with after our meeting. But in the meantime, tell us what you'd like to talk about. Popetown? Racism in Russia? Gas in Bolivia? We're waiting to hear from you.
