Should we annexe Oswestry?
Independence Cymru: Should the Welsh Government Claim Oswestry?
That's the title of an interesting aside on the blog of Independence Cymru, following on from the story that the Scottish Nationalist Party has fixed its sights on the English border town of Berwick upon Tweed.
Interesting how times change. In the 1400s, Oswestry became known as Pentrepoeth or 'hot town' as it was burned and nearly destroyed by the Welsh. Now any attempt to make it Welsh would, presumably, be conducted much more diplomatically.
And, according to the Scotsman newspaper, that's what's going on right now in Berwick - the town which has been a battleground between England and Scotland for centuries, changing hands 14 times.
What do the people of Oswestry think of the idea that they could become part of Wales - and what do their Welsh neighbours think? What are the benefits and is it an idea worth pursuing?
