Papa Le Gal in the 6 Music hub
In tonight's show we loved the down and dirty rock ‘n’ roll of Texan underground favourites RTB2, who breath new life into the gritty blues rhythms of the past. And the rude awakening of ‘Pins’ by Norwich trio Fever Fever is a master class in abrasive noise, or ‘art-punk-fight-pop’ as they put it.

We feasted on the fruits of a mid-week session from the “five-headed monster” that is Papa Le Gál (which is Brazillian slang for ‘Daddy cool’, we’ll have you know). Producer Lucy was lucky enough to sit in on the session and she was quick to lavish praise on how tight the band sounded. Lucy tells no lies - just listen to the flawless recordings of ‘Take A Step’ and ‘Wake Up’ for yourself.

The enviable flow of Karl Phillips - he of The Midnight Ramblers - drew our admiration for its speed and precision. And the fact it’s propelled by a boisterous dubstep wobble means that the tune ‘Dangerous’ could well be one to watch out for in 2012.

Another highlight was the wonderful ‘Your Ego Might Grow’ from Joep Van Son & Jelle Van Veenen, which combines the best bits of The Beta Band with an unmistakable European eccentricity. If the book it soundtracks is anything as good this song, then I’m learning Dutch.

Ice, Sea, Dead People with Tom Robinson
We’ve got another cracking batch of records for you to wrap your ears around this week on BBC Introducing with Tom Robinson, showcasing the very best streaming tunes Fresh on the Net.

This week we had the pleasure of welcoming again Ed, Craig, Jamie and David, together known as Ice, Sea, Dead People (with Tom, above) to the studio for a catch up, having just released the aural assault that is their new single ‘Ultra Silence’. Earlier in the week their loyal following were asked to vote on how the boys should approach their interview: “Shall we be enthusiastic and happy or arsey and unresponsive? YOU DECIDE”. You’ll have to listen to their interview to find out how the public voted...

The two exclusive recordings from those “notorious denizens of Launderettes”, London band Real Fur, put a smile on our faces in the studio. We heard their debut single ‘Animal’ and follow-up ‘The Fool’, both of which display the band’s trademark infectious rhythms and soulful heart. Launderettes won’t be the only place you’ll be hearing these guys in the near future.

As well as this we had the usual impeccable tip from BBC Wales’ Bethan Elfyn, who offered us an in-vogue blast of noise-pop from the Cardiff based My Pet Monster. And DJ Target’s Homegrown Download this week came from Hype Kronik, the 22 year old MC based near Milton Keynes, who offers the perfect soundtrack to a ‘Dutty Weekend’.

Elsewhere Tom revisited some of his favourite tracks from the past few weeks. Haunting and undeniably brilliant, ‘The Watchers’, by last week’s Introducing guest Beck Goldsmith, got another well-deserved hearing and will surely have had those listening in the wee small hours looking underneath their beds for fear of beasties- don’t say we didn’t warn you. We also spread the light on Arcs’ ‘Mubu’, the delightful fuzz bass on which proved much too hard to resist. And we heard “3 minutes of blissful, colourful insanity”, in the words of Sam Lee from BBC Introducing In Wiltshire, from Acid Glasses, the brainchild of Memphis artist Nick Burke.

Regular listeners may have detected a distinctly cosmopolitan theme to this morning’s show, perhaps owing to the numerous and wonderful French acts we played. We heard Alone With King Kong, the one man band project of the mysterious Frenchman named….. Well, that’s why he’s mysterious- we don’t know who he is. But we certainly like what he does. And the so-called “French Sufjan Stevens” got an airing too, with a Philippe Crab’s nonchalantly romantic tune that gave us a hankering for ‘un petit crossiant’ on the beautiful streets of Paree…

As ever, the only thing that links the eclectic selection of bands we played this morning is that they were all sent in by you via the Recommend Music tab above. So thanks for that. And needless to say, all these artists deserve a place on your radar, so do yourself a favour and be sure to give tonight’s entire show a listen via iPlayer and download the choice cuts in the podcast.

Tom Robinson and Jono McCleery
After Bethan Elfyn’s superb takeover of the show for the last two weeks, Tom returned from his break this morning with more of the best new streaming tunes around. As ever, he brought an eclectic mix of music to the show; from the chillwave soundscapes of Newcastle producer Waskerley Way to the folky vibes of Will Varley and the gothic electronic nuances of NY artist Bonnie Baxter, aka Shad[]wb[]x.

Joining us in the studio this week was the fantastic London-based artist Jono McCleery (with Tom, above). Since his initial airplay on 6 Music in 2006, Jono has been swiftly snapped up by Ninja Tune Records - and his second album There Is is out now. As well as talking to us about the positive reception of his new album in France and the US and his love for jazz/ improvisational styles, he admitted to a secret fetish for mastering the double-bass. This was unbeknown to us and it certainly adds to McCleery’s musical aresenal ! We played Tie Me In - one of his favourites from the new album - and we loved its jazz-snap rhythms, brooding vocals and yearning strings. Jono plays a headline show at London's legendary 100 Club on November and we wish him a storming succes.

Our Sunday morning tip from Huw Stephens at Radio One featured, he told us, the "musical hip-hop genius" of 26 year old London rapper, Mikill Pane. The heavy marching rhythms and booming chorus of his track I Can Feel It make it near-impossible to not dance to. DJ Target recommended To And Fro by the Ipswich duo De’ Vide, while Bobby Friction brought us a brash but catchy hip-hop chant called I Don’t Really Care by the London artist Menis, aka The Brown Boi. We were interested to note that Menis had been part of an Asian cultural delegation to Downing Street recently, where he met PM David Cameron. Also in attendance was Swami Baracus - featured on this Monday’s Mixtape edition of the show.

In place of session tracks this week we had two live recordings by The Slow Show - who were recommended to support Elbow at Manchester Cathedral last month by the city's local BBC Introducing show - and were recorded there by BBC Radio 2. Working in a similar vein to to the contemplative, alt-rock stylings of bands such as The National. it's amazing to think how far this unsigned band have come since their formation just a few months ago.

Tom gave repeat plays to several of his favourite tracks - including Ghosting by Secret Rivals, and All At Sea by The Peryls - while tonight's spin of the Introducing Roulette wheel turned up the Ulster quartet Seven Summits, with I Want Somebody. It came to us courtesy of Steven Rainey from Rory McConnell’s BBC Introducing In Northern Ireland programme - and our thanks go out as usual to the listeners, artists and colleagues who recommended yet another great week of diverse under-the-radar music from cyberspace.
