Strasbourg under siege?

Lyon 0830

Lyon ? Why am I in Lyon ? It's only for an hour, an airport stopover, between Strasbourg and Prague in an attempt to keep ahead of the Obama roadshow.

To get out of Strasbourg we had to trudge through deserted streets at dawn to the outer cordon where cars are allowed. Mind you even during the day the city was like an occupied ghost town, not a soul about only watchful police in body armour. I never saw a demonstator - they are hemmed in miles away.

This morning's Liberation (the French Guardian) has some fantastic pictures of mooning protesters and a hippy girl being handcuffed by a policeman looking like a Star Wars imperial trooper and the headline Strasbourg under siege. Figaro (more like the Telegraph) sniffily remarks on the smell of sausage and the crates of beer needed to fuel the demonstrators.
