Cute: Jamie's photo shortlist
One Show wildlife photographer Jamie Crawford has chosen his favourite pictures for the 'Cute' shortlist. Here are his top picks:
- 'Deer at Richmond Park' by Richard Baggott from Woking, Surrey
Richard, 23, is a warehouse worker. He usually takes photos of motorsport racing but finds wildlife photography just as exciting as "you never know what to expect". Richard was walking in RichmondPark when he happened across a group of deer. He managed to get within five metres of this deer, who was happy to pose for the picture. He thinks the strength of this photo lies in the composition and the fact it's "not something you see every day". Richard was pleased to have had this rare opportunity to get so close to a deer.
- 'Bad hair day' by Ray Garlick from Rainham, Kent

Ray writes "Robins - remember never to perch on garden fences with your tail pointing into the wind!"
Jamie's overall favourite in this category was:
- 'One day old' by Eddie Campbell from South Shields
Eddie took this photograph in WashingtonWildlifePark in South Shields last spring. He went there every day for two weeks to keep watch on a mallard duck who was about to give birth. The duck had a brood of 14 chicks and Eddie was able to get this shot of one of them, just one day after it was born. Eddie told The One Show "if you look closely at the tip of its beak you still see the sharp piece which chicks use to cut themselves out of their shell. These drop off after several days but at one day old it is still there to see". Eddie loves taking wildlife and natural history photographs and regularly explores the coastline and Lake District near to his home, to take his pictures. His sister-in-law encouraged him to send in this photo, which he likes because the chick is "all ready to begin its life".
