I'm the BBC's media correspondent and this is my brief selection of what you need to know.

The BBC reports that the SNP failed in its court attempt to stop tonight's prime-ministerial debate being shown in Scotland. The party claimed that the BBC had breached its impartiality rules by excluding the Scottish nationalists.

According to the Daily Mirror, in tonight's debate, Gordon Brown will again apologise to Gillian Duffy, after privately calling her "bigoted". The comment was picked up yesterday by a Sky News microphone.

Melvyn Bragg has criticised TV's "soundbite" coverage of politics, saying that the TV debates show that people want to hear politicians in depth, reports the Guardian.

The Daily Mail reports that Alan Yentob has said he couldn't do his job properly if he didn't fly business class.

According to the BBC, the BBC Trust editorial standards committee has apologised for a joke on Radio 4 by comedian Frankie Boyle.
