Well, if I do a Google map like you did, I think I could! So, what's the story about, Eddie? Is it another Diego Garcia scenario?
Well, if I was going there, I wouldn't start from Here.
Bless you, Eddie, you do have to be of a certain age to know a little bit about Tristan da Cunha. As a child, I remember the evacuation of the island and the resettlement temporarily of the islanders in South East England (in the Southampton area, if I recall). It was all rather exotic to have this happening in England in those days.
Don't I also remember reading somewhere that the island's also been given a UK postcode?
Anyway, on a more Scottish note, one of the settlements is called Edinburgh of the Seven Seas. A prime case of SatNav confusion, I'd imagine!
Don't tell me he's got lost again! Did he have a canoe with him?
Eddie, I once put Lewisham in my SatNav and it said. "You're not really going there are you?".
Correction to my last post: Having looked at the Tristan da Cunha website, I see the ONLY settlement appears to be Edinburgh of the Seven Seas!
You can click on my name to see more.
Mmm, this is sounding better and better, Eddie. The official website proudly states that:
"There are no package tours for independent travellers, no hotels, no airport, no holiday reps.,
no night clubs no restaurants, no jet skis nor safe sea swimming.
Visitors are limited due to lack of available shipping berths."
Well I could now! :-)
Msg 4, Is this where the wife got to?!
Wow! Big Sis - it looks like a proper Treasure Island map. I love the idea of 'Inaccessible Island'.
Yes, that's where I thought it was.
Our Art master at school once showed us a load of postage stamps from there, projecting them onto a screen with an epidiascope. They had the Queen's head on them, of course.
Is it near Tristan und Isolde?
Jason,
No, it's near Tristram Shandy.
I note that the Tristan da Cunha web site has crashed due to too many people visiting it! - Eddie, you are to blame, even if you did not broadcast the item this evening!
(Why does that seem familiar? 509 instead of 502?)
I knew where TdC was, as, by some chance, once had a classroom assistant at my first school who claimed to come from that island. (Probably as a result of the 1961 volcanic eruption) . That it was a sub-let of St Helena seemed to be brushed under the carpet at that time. It was news to me that they only received their own flag a few years ago. lobsters rampant or whatever the correct heraldic phrase is.
Lobsters Rampant DeepJohn? I'm scared!
Appers @15, would lobsters passant regardent be even more scary? especially if the eyes came out on stalks to look at you?
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!
Dr. Noé Zammel, brazilian, from a canadian university made an important research in the subject of genetics in asthma. This study was performed in the Island of Tristão da Cunha because there its possible to map the genealogy of the isolated population.
Guima,
Might there be a connection between the good doctor's research and the present problems?
