This week we began with a rather complicated story about legal changes to a group of European directives, which some argue, could pave the way for tough measures against file-sharers. For futher reading, there's background to that debate here.

The programme featured:

• Lilian Edwards and Malcolm Harbour MEP discuss whether amendments to the Telecoms Packet could be used to crack down on file-sharers


• We heard from Kurt Opshal of the EFF about the decision in the Google/Viacom court case which could mean YouTube has to hand over user data to Viacom.


• Eamonn Carey is working on a Facebook documentary- "Poked" - he told us how it is progressing


• Tim Coyne of the Hollywood Podcast kindly shared part of his interview with Mickey Mouse Club graduate Lindsey Alley (Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears etc were also perfomers on the Disney Kids show)

Thursday to Saturday I was in Budapest covering the Global Voices Summit08. For those of you who don't know Global Voices it is the pre-eminent online portal for the aggregation of blog posts around the world.

While in the UK much time is spent debating the merits of bloggers vs professional journalists, in countries without a free press, the point is largely moot, blogging provides an important source of independent commentary, analysis and news not available elsewhere.

The Summit focused on issues of censorship and the repression of bloggers. While these can seem like dry subjects, many of those who attended the conference had paid a high price for their determination to express themselves online. In the extended edition of Pods and Blogs below we dedicate most of the programme to the summit.

The programme featured:

• Victor Kaonga, Wael Abbas, Adam Loewenstein, Alex Au, Nart Villeneuve,Robert Guerra, and not forgetting our excellent tour guide Drew from Budacast.
