POST BESTiVAL...
It's Monday afternoon..my compilation album is out today and I'm off into town in a bit to see it in the shops.
Bestival was literally, the best festival of the Summer. It's got all the best bits of every festival, the magical otherworldliness of Glastonbury, the friendliness of The Big Chill and a line up that can't be compared to any other festival. Klaxons, Guillemots, Jamie T, Hot Chip, Scissor Sisters, Erol Alkan, Metronomy, Gogol Bordello and hundreds more played over the weekend on the Isle Of Wight.
Friday was my set.. I was nervous as last years Bestival gig was the one I most enjoyed out of all my 2005 gigs and I wanted this years to live up to last years. The festival was bigger this year, the Bollywood Bar was stretched longer so that I couldn't see the end of the tent when I was behind the decks. The crowd was amazing, and from the second I started my set with a big siren noise.. nothing went wrong.. I played the Trentmoller mix of Moby's Go and Mason Exceeder as well as Leftfields' Spaceshanty and the Tiefschwarz mix of Spektrum's Kinda New, and ended with High Contrast's Racing Green. The hightlight of the weekend was outside the Bollywood Bar on Saturday afternoon. The sun was blazing down and everybody was dressed up and completely hyperactive for the fancy dress parade. The mood was 'be as ridiculous as possible' and it was very infectious. Favourite outfits of the day, was a can't stopper dressed as a giant whoopee cushion, a bloke with a hollowed out TV on his head and a guy dressed up as a cycle path. I wore a mask of Baloo from the Jungle book. We saw Erol Alkan and Pet Shop Boys and DJ Derek, a white octogenarian reggae DJ who speaks in Jamaican patois between every track. He was my favourite.
Anyways..I Djed again yesterday afternoon from 12 to 2pm. It was supposed to be a chill out set but due to the sunny day and my lack of sleep..it turned into quite a banging affair and I was chuffed that so many people turned up. So I missed the Scissor sisters, what were they like? If you were at Bestival did you have a good weekend? if not, where did you go? what did you do? don't forget we have 2 weeks of Thursday night's left so keep voting for your favourite minimix below...xx
Great Blog. I am listening to the musical programmes in the BBC.
Complain about this postExcellent weekend. I think I got 6hrs sleep all w/end. Rock on. Highlight was (you of course, i didn't realise you would be so good, caught the end of the "Chill out" set. Banging! and what was that 'Coronation Street' track you played) ali b to sissor sisters then the ultimate finalé CARL COX (amazing)
Complain about this postCouldn't go to Bestival but my sister went and rubbed my face in it by phoning me when you started your set!!!
Complain about this postAnyway next year!!
i believe that the Reading Festival is much more superior and interesting than the Bestival!, this is because the Reading Festival consists of really good music which entertains many people, as for the bestival, the besitival festival has no interesting music like puck rock and indie bands, so therefore The Reading festival is the best festival around.
Complain about this postHi Annie,
Just wanted to say thanks for Friday - absolutely blinding, your set was definitely the highlight - the moment of the summer.
Missed you on Sunday unfortunately, the whole world had become a bit of a blur. Oh well, next time ...

Complain about this postHi Annie,
You are sooooo right about the best festival of the summer! A mini glasto and big chill in one, it makes it my favourite festival.
I met you on Saturday at the Bollywood tent briefly thinking you were one of my friends cos you lokked familiar but otherwise i probably wouldn't have said anything, Nice of you to stop by and hear me rant about how good the festival was and they shouldn't make it any bigger..
Have so many highlights, Saturday was amazing on the main stage during the day, thought The Cuban Bros were funny as hell. Carl Cox - what can i say, happy hardcore all over again. And ofcourse your set, f'ing ace! Definite highlight. Same again next year!

Complain about this postYo Annie,
Great comments about Bestival, was absolutely excellent. I've been out the UK for the last 7months and got back just in time to catch the end of summer and possibly the best festival I've ever been too, just so happy, cosy and random.
Wicked set on Sunday, think I got a photo of you leaning on a PA looking a bit knackered at the end of it.
Now to resume my hunt of some wicked infectious tunes I heard over the weekend.
If anyone saw George Bush and Fidel Castro hanging out on Saturday that was me and my girlfriend.
See you next year!

Complain about this postHi Annie, thanks for playing such amazing sets at bestival. Friday night in the bollywood tent was one of my highlights - me and some mates even snuck backstage to have a little dance!
I ended up staying up all night on friday and when i realised you were playing at 12 i decided to not sleep at all because i knew id miss it if i did.
I saw scissor sisters, i nearly gave it a miss because im not their biggest fan but i was so suprised because they put on a wicked show. the lights were crazy and they were jumping about all over the place entertaining the crowd. They also dressed as clowns and had giant dancing clowns on stilts to scare the people who are apparently freaked out by them!
What a crazy festival, definately the best of the bunch, c ya next year!

Complain about this postHey, I was at Bestival - it really is the BEST festival of them all - fantastic atmosphere and a real diverse range of music. The best part of my weekend was your set on Sunday morning Annie, it started of really chilled, and by the end the tent was heaving and people were going crazy! Some seriously funky stuff. Mucho fun! Can't wait for next year. x
Complain about this postAlright Annie.
It's comforting to hear that even established DJ's like yourself get nervous before a set.
I've got a club gig doing our own night in a club in town in October and i'm absolutely BRICKING it!
Wish me luck!
Complain about this postHey Annie
It was my first Bestival and my god they got it so right didn't they? Its not just about the music (which was fab anyway) but everything else..such as the fancy dress parade really made it for me. We went as Team Zissou and found 16 others so we all group together for the parade!
Everyone was so friendly as well!!!
I was GUTTED i missed both your sets, but i did hear the sunday set whilst lazing around in the village... i remember thinking this doesn't sound very chilled.... But it was very Annie Mac!!!!
My faves were Gogol Bordello, The Klaxons, Hot Chip and Lindstrom. The Pet Shop Boys showed us all how its meant to be done too...
So looking forward to next year...
Big Hugs
X
Complain about this postHi Annie
Complain about this postMy fist Bestival aswell! Just awesome, loved every minute of it!.
Thanks for your signed album, certainly helps prevent that blue feeling now Bestival is over. Unfortunately could'nt make your friday set due to work commits but your Sunday set- Suberb! :-) loved it!!.
I saw the Scissor Sisters and can only say just 'Brilliant' performance, i have to say I'm not into much mainstream music nowadays
but I think they are must heard live. Did like DJ Zinc and Coxy of course plus Caged Baby - very Daarrk! - loved it gotta get some of that!!
Of course none of them as good as you!
A Big up yourself Annie!
Thanks Tom
Hi Annie,
Saw your Sunday 'Chill Out'set. It was brill, tune after tune. I was knackered from the Saturday night, but your set really got me in the mood for the rest of the day. How many crazy dancers were there?? So much entertainment in one tent. Cracking!
Please, please, please could you post your set playlist from your sunday st. Id love to know what most of the tunes were. It but be the perfect post bestival pressie to help relive the best weekend ever.
Cheers Annie, keep up the good work.x
Complain about this postHi Anni.
Have you recoverd yet? cause i only just have.
Complain about this postMust say your set was just as good as last years, which was the first time i seen you play.
Must say though, Carl Cox was the highlight of the weekend for me, never seen a performance quiet like it...... AMAZING!!!!
Can't wait till next year, hope your there again.... wouldn't be the same without you.
Hi Annie
Bestival was awesome to many good acts to mention! Saw u on fri and on sun. On Friday I was full of energy jumping around at the front. The sunday set really got me going again, i did need a small kip after tho ;).
I should be getting the album delivered tomorrow, looking forward to it. keep up the good work.
Complain about this postHi Annie,
Your right: bestival was the best festival this year. Such an eclectic mix which recognises that people have diverse tastes and don't need pigeon holed. Aweseome atmosphere, I really feel that you could accost and have a good chin wag with 99% of the people there. My favourite was this guy who was dressed as a caretaker and had this caution wet floor sign which he informed me was great for creating space to shake on crowded dance floors! Thanks to the random stranger who gave me a brush to wear afro comb stylee in my einstienesque fright wig. Your sets were awesome Annie esp. the friday set when you started dropping the really fat techy house near the end. Did you or anybody else catch mum? they were stageringly anventurous; almost hard to listen to. Hats off to them. plus hot chip, the aliens, the bees and the bicycle thiefs.
does anyone know of any good weekenders coming up this autumn?
Coutts
Complain about this postHey Annie,
Had the best weekend at Bestival this year. Didn't think it was possible to have so much fun! Your set on Friday was briliant! Great start to the rest of the weekend! Erol and Carl Cox big highlights as well. Roll on 2007............
Complain about this postAnnie, I thought your second set was banging. Really good. I too saw DJ Derek, what a star. My sister lives in Bristol and had told me about this guy. Bit of legend in Briz!
Though Kid Carpet was good value, but my favourite moment had to be Carl Cox doing his old school set on the Sunday night. Absolutly amazing, took me back about 15 years. He had the place bouncing, some music just never dates!!
Looking forward to catching you December 15th in London.
