Ladies Rave weekend...

annie_small.jpg Tuesday morning and it's rained all night.. it was getting a bit hot..

The weekend was a great success..we left on Friday afternoon and made Newcastle in good time...I played the main room but only had a limited amount of time so played for just over an hour and then Xavier from Justice headlined. He is the most incredible DJ, he plays with battered vinyl and is fearless and fast in his style.. he brings the record in, roughly in time and then fixes it while it's in the mix. He only plays a few minutes of every record meaning you never get bored. And the music is everything you could expect from a Justice DJ set, really raw and grimey but full of disco moments.

The next day we spent a very sunny afternoon on the beautiful Newcastle quayside, watching the football and taking in the fantastic architecture. The building The Sage, is my new favourite building. After the footie we drove to Leeds and entertained ourselves by doing tricks with our hair in the back of the car.. (check out the photos). We got to Leeds and had a disco map, had dinner and hit club number 2 of the weekend. It's called The Northern Lights and it was one of the best clubs I've seen in the UK. 3 big rooms and a courtyard, the main room was all brick and metal, with the DJ booth made out of scaffolding. It had a real warehouse vibe and a brilliant atmosphere from the moment we walked in. There was a brief moment of sheer panic after looking at the 'rotary mixer' that I was supposed to use, a rotary mixer has no faders, just big knobs that you turn when you want to bring the music in. It took abit of getting used to but was fine in the end...I loved playing, highlights were Primal Scream - Rocks as a penultimate track and the new Daft Punk Para One remix. We stuck around to check out Mylo's set which was suitably fantastic, he played everything from vintage disco to glitchy electro house.

We left in the morning and poor Lucy the designated driver had to spend three hours driving with no one to talk to, just four ladies fast asleep, heads lolling, mouths wide open, even some snoring, all the way to London.

I love the picture of the girls and dodgy barnets - especially the girl on the left. She's got such long pretty hair - can you find out what shampoo she uses for me please? I strive to get that shine....
