RAINBOWS...

  • Annie Mac
  • 19 May 06, 12:32 PM

Thanks to Mick Y on Flickr
It's friday afternoon and i'm listening again to last night's show (I always listen again). Thanks for all your comments on the tunes, it looks like that Edison remix of justice Vs Simian is very popular indeed. How big does that new Subfocus track 'Aeroplane' sound?

So next weeks show is called THE RAINBOW SHOW. Every single track we play has to have a colour in the title of artist name. Here's some examples from Andy from the post below..

Felix Da Housecat - 'SILVER Screen Shower scene'
New Order - 'BLUE Monday'
GREEN Velvet - 'La La Land'
Laurent Garnier - 'The Man With The RED Face'
GOLDEN Girls - 'Kinetic'(Orbital Mix)

It's an excuse for us to play lots of big classic tunes, or tunes you haven't heard in years that you love. So far i've thought of

High Contrast - Racing Green
Basement Jaxx - Red Alert
Al Green - Here I Am
Nathan Fake - The Sky is Pink (James holden Mix)
Metro Area - Orange Alert (DFA Mix)

We had loads of suggestions on the text last night but if you have a spare moment to think, please leave your suggestion here on the blog. Remember there's no musical boundaries..

This Saturday I'm off to Bristol to play at a little club called Bouyancy. I've no idea what it's going to be like..

    Hi Annie, how ya doin?

I realise that its a good excuse to play the usual classics (I love New Order, Pendulum & High Contrast, etc), but how about some more obscure tunes as well, like:-

*Mo Lester - BLUE Sky Day
*Skin Up - Juicy RED Apple
    *Jimi Tenor - BLACK Hole
    *Leftfield - BLACK Flute
    *808 State - BLACK Rod
*LA Style - James BROWN is dead
*Holy Noise - James BROWN is still alive
*Arthur BROWN - Fire (inspiration for Prodigy's Fire)

How about something by Blackalicious? Bit tenuous I know (black clouds downwind from the rainbow?), but "Don't let money change you" and "Alphabet aerobics" are classics (especially the bit at the end).

Alternatively, I doubt Booker T and the MGs "Green onions" has been played on Radio 1 for about 25 years...

I'm so jealous of you going to Brizzle - music scene was dead when I lived there!

Here's a couple of colourful tunes...
    Tom Vek - Green Lights
and I know they've come up a few times but surely if you're going to play Boards of Canada on a rainbow theme it has to be ROYGBIV?

    Hi Annie,

I must say what a great idea, especially with the weather at the moment, I've seen at least 6 rainbows in the last 3 days, but still looking for that pot of gold - Really good excuse to play some blinding classics and I'm looking forward to hearing the show.

I love colours, so much so that I used to have a vinyl shop called "Purple Planet" and a few years ago did some mix tapes along the rainbow theme - I've been trying to dig them out, but just can't find them - gutted. Here's some suggestions/requests for Thursday's show:

    The Orb - BLUE Room
    Octave One - BLACKwater
GREEN Velvet - La La Land, The Stalker
Orbital - anything from the BROWN album, YELLOW album, GREEN album or the BLUE album
George Baker Selection - Little GREEN BAG
Aphex Twin - GREEN Calx, BLUE Calx, YELLOW Calx, WHITE Blur 2
    PINK Floyd - any tune
    Prince - PURPLE Rain
YELLO - Oh Yeah, The Race
New Order - Everything's Gone GREEN, BLUE Monday
    OLIVE - You're Not Alone
    Leftfield - BLACK Flute
    Jimi Hendrix - PURPLE Haze

I'd like to put in a request for the theme music from Rainbow off the TV. It may not be much of a bangin tune, but it still rocks in its own wholesome way.... actually, can you play it and then persuade High Contrast to do a remix? :)
