a colourful evening..
Thanks so much for all your input to last night's show. It seemed to last about half an hour in the studio which is always a good sign. The more fun it is, the faster it goes! Sorry we didn't get to play all your suggestions.. maybe we'll do a Rainbow Show Mark 2 later on in the year.
Round of applause to Anti Chris for an out of this world minimix. Check out the post below for a message and more info from the man himself..if you're a promoter, book him! I love the fact that the listeners minimixes are totally on a par to the established DJs and producers minimixes.
Right this weekend I am off to Run To The Sun in Newquay to DJ and have some fun. As far as I can gather, this festival is about showing off your VW, surfing and raving into the night. I am going down with some friends in a real VW campervan and am partying on Saturday and DJing on Sunday. Its quite a strange line up, am playing before Marco V who is hard dance DJ! Will take some pictures and keep the blog updated...
About the rainbow show.. we really like doing theme shows every once in a while, so if you have any suggestions for another one down the line let us know. I thought of doing a show called 'One More Tune!' where every song that we play is something that has been played by a DJ as the last song of their set. I think it's a bit vague though.. what do you reckon? any other ideas?
One last tune is a good idea and not vague if you get listeners reasons why that 'one last tune' stands out. For example, when the courtyard at cream closed down the last tune played was solar stone - seven cities. Its not my fav tune of all time but it has a lot of memories.
Complain about this postHi Annie,
I have to say last night's show was probably the best ever and the icing on the cake was the awesome listener's minimix. Good work, Anti Chris.
How about an 'animal' theme where every tune has to have an animal in the title of artist name or have an actual animal noise on the track?
Eg:
Lemon Jelly 'Nice Weather For DUCKS'
Underworld 'COWgirl'
The Avalanches 'Frontier Psychiatrist' (it's got horses and parrots on it)
Andy
Complain about this postI thought Anti Chris's minimix was awesome. Nice work Chris!
Complain about this postHow about an A to Z show.. all songs (or artists) beginning with the letter in order ie..
Azzido da Bass - 'Dooms Night (Timo Maas remix)'
Blondie - 'Heart Of Glass' (Edison Mix)
Chemical Brothers - 'Hey Boy, Hey Girl'
and so on.....
Or would that be too easy? I suspect letters like I and X would be a challenge right enough... As may getting 26 songs, a minimix, and 12 of 12s into a show..
Complain about this postAnnie,
We could do a theme show where all the titles of the song have to line up to tell a story...
DON'T TELL ME (Madonna) ALL THE YOUNG DUDES(Bowie)have SMILEY FACES (Gnarls Barkley)from staring INTO THE SUN (weekend players) etc etc etc
maybe it is too childish but it would be good craic I think.

Also loved the mini mix by anti chris...classic to have the chicken song in there...kewl!
Complain about this postThanks again Annie for playing my minimix and to everyone who texted in for the rewind- i'm still buzzing! Please come and say hello at my myspace: www.myspace.com/antichrismusic - not alot up there but plenty of links to mixes i've done. Add me!
I'm DJing at Cargo in London on friday 2nd June. I'm playing the last set, supporting Caged Baby (live) plus The Loose Cannons. It will rock so try and make it!
loved the rainbow business too Annie, great show, keep it up!
love

Hey Annie,
Have you thought of getting all these listener mini mixes onto a CD and getting it released. I know that there are many problems to doing this but there are so many competitions all about showcasing the new talent. Unfortunately all these promotions are always aimed at bands and solo artists. Why not showcase the new talents in djing world. Just a thought.
Anyway great show and great theme. Keep them up it makes the show great fun...not that it has ever been boring!!!

Complain about this postOne of my favourite Annie Mac shows was when every track you played was faster than the one before. That was the show I heard Sébastien Tellier's "La Ritournelle" and I've loved it ever since. Love to hear a repeat of that idea.
Other theme ideas I can think of:
* A Scott-Mills-Wonder-Years style show where you play one track from every year from 1980 (say) to the current day.
* A whole show of covers.
* A night of remixes.
* Songs with numbers in the title.
* A-Z of types of dance (Ambient, Breakbeat, Chillout, Drum & Bass, Electronica, Funky House, Global, House etc). Might get a bit stuck after that though, the only thing I can think of for 'I' is Illbient!
* Bangers and Mashed night - a high-tempo track followed by a low-tempo track and then back to a high-tempo track etc.
* An alternative Eurovision song contest (with good songs!) where listeners have to text in for their winner, which gets a repeat airing.
* Tenuous Link show - A show where every song has to have a connection to the next song, a kind of chain show.
* A show full of songs with guest vocalists.
* Songs covering / remixing / sampling one particular artist / band (such as the Beatles).
* A-Z of artists from different countries.
* Night of unsigned music.
* A track by an artist from every county in the UK.
* Songs in foreign languages.
* Food-related songs/artists.
* Songs with a place name in the title.
* Songs from the movies.
* Songs used in TV ads.
Hope that gives some food for thought!
Complain about this posthello
we are fans of your show over here in southwest germany, listen to it when we work at the uni, esp. the latest rainbow show - far out!- that was good. soothing sounds for our ears...greetings to u , looking foward 2 the next show. how about a number show ? prince: 3121, thievery corporation: one, and so on.
Complain about this postWow, how many ideas does Craig Stevens have? ^ You should track him down and keep him in your pocket then bring him back out when you need a brain to use!
I know this has nothing to do with your blog but all my friends are one minded rockabillied dudes so I thought I'd ask you. I think I read somewhere before about Adam F /DJ Fresh's (see I don't even know if they're the same person) The Nine was voted DnB Arena's best DnB tune of all time. I've searched everywhere on t'internet, with no results. See I'm starting to think I read it in a dream?! You gotta help me Annie! The curiosity is driving me crazy!
-Did I really read it?
-If so where from?
-Are DJ fresh and Adam F the same person?
-Is there such a tune by him called the Nine?
-What does it sound like? I mean where could I find it to listen to?
Help me Annie! Help moiiiiiiiiii!
Complain about this post(PS Rainbow Show rocked like like like - see rocked so much i don't even know!)
THANK GOD FOR LISTEN AGAIN!
Missed the show on thursday, but made up for it tonight after a wicked bank holiday weekend!
That minimix was quality! Felt a bit of a 2 many dj's vibe!
Thankyou thankyou for playing my fave chemical brothers tune Annie! A godess among ummm... us.
Right the subject at hand... Themes... (really do like your suggestion of final songs in dj sets!)
- Something related to people names? People on the show? People throughout Radio1? People who faithfully listen to you... hehe
- Artists / songs that have animals in their names?
- How about songs / bands related to the 80's! Theres plenny of dance hits now of rehashed 80's wonders! Stuff like "Like A Prayer", "Your Love", "Ordinary World", "Out of Touch", "Sunglasses at Night", and every single Michael Jackson record!
- I was gonna suggest a theme of household items, but could only think of "brown paper bag", and maybe something by the chemical brothers...
- I like mateys idea above about something to do with numbers in the titles. Maybe even something to do with the numbers in lost? Hmmm maybe not tempt fate...!
- How about something to do with the listeners memories - themes on stuff like
"songs you remember from your first day of school"
"songs you remember from your first kiss"
"when you bought ur first house / car"
"first night in a club / concert"
or anything like that?
I'm tired now :S
Love you Annie! x

Hey Annie, have just had the most amazing weekend at the hi:fi festival. Lived in the breaks arena all weekend and saw some of the best sets of my life. The Stanton Warriors were unreal although only one of them Dj'd cos the other dude was off his tits dancin on stage for about 6 hours!! The played the most amazing breaks mix of Jose Gonzalez's crosses any idea who its mixed by anyone??
Complain about this postDidn't catch the show but looking at the tracklistings there were some tunes that I was pleased to see included.
I think that the 'one more tune' theme would make a superb show. This would stir a lot of fond memories for listeners, I am sure that I could come up with a few suggestions. Also liked some of Craig Stevens suggestions like a year show starting at 1980/85 then working up to the present. A bangers and mashed show (there's already been a bangers show hasn't there?) would be good also.
To respond to Red Hot Lilly Pepper: Adam F and DJ Fresh are different djs and producers. The Nine is a track by Bad Company or DBBC and neither Adam F/DJ Fresh. I am sure that is why you have problems finding it.
Complain about this postLoved the show this week an absolutely great mixture , finally listened to it, and the minimix that Anti chris put together , what a selection, absolutely killer. I am going to go and check him out this week, and suggest that anyone who's free gets themselves down there
Complain about this postAnti-chris's mini mix was easily the best one by a listener I have heard, kudos!
Complain about this postJust caught the rainbow show on Listen Again out here in Los Angeles, and I was sad to see that Similou - All This Love didn't get played. I know the rainbow theme had to do with the titles, but how can you have a Rainbow Show without a song whose chorus bellows out "RAINBOW STYLIN!" I believe this song deserves some special attention this week, all things considered.
Keep lighting up two hours of our weeks Annie. We love you for it.
Complain about this postLoved the rainbow show, brilliant concept and all, but I always end up feeling sad everytime your show finishes, not only because I'll miss you until the following week, but because of something else.
I sent a Mini Mix to Radio 1 at the end of April hoping it would be played, and since then, I've always been going to bed feeling completely depressed after hearing someone else's mini mix being played.
Could you please play my mini mix, cause I think it's one of the best ones you'll hear. I'm not sure if it's a match for Anti Chris' mini mix cause that simply ROCKED!!!

Hi Marty,
I'm amused by the thought of me dancing my tits off for 6 hours (trust me i got no stamina) but I'm afraid I couldn't do that gig so I left it up to my partner Dominic to hold the fort. (Sounds like he did an alright job by all accounts ;-)
The Jose "Crosses" mix u speak of is a mix I've done and should be out this week. Glad you're feeling it.
P.S. Annie..I'll be getting one in the post to you today .x
Complain about this postS Man, I think you'll find DJ Fresh is from Bad Company(UK)and the link with Adam F is that they co-own Breakbeat Kaos together, however you are right 'The Nine' track is under the name Bad Company on BC Recordings.
Complain about this posthi there
