A series of artwork along the 'Dudley Southern By-pass', forms one of the most spectacular sculpture trails in the country.

The trail symbolises a passage through time. Starting off with the echoes of 'Ancient and Geological History' on the grass verge at Wolverton Road, moving through 'Mediaeval History' on the huge Castle Gate Island. Continuing with 'Civic History' at the small town centre roundabout, 'Industrial History' at the Cinder Bank Island, with 'the Future' at Scotts Green Island.

Artists were shortlisted from all over the country. Steve Field, resident artist and public art adviser to Dudley Council, co-ordinated the trail. Successful candidates included local artists and others whom have Black Country connections.
