He's made a few changes - so you can party on the move! Watch the video! Help playing audio/video ![]() Six litre engine Craig Nunn, 34, believes his 1999 GMC Bluebird model is the first of its kind to grace British soil. "I've done a lot of research and I'm not aware of any other high school buses operational in the country," he says. "At least in terms of what we can offer with the vehicle. It's fully road worthy, taxed and insured. I get some great looks when passers by see me driving it!" The yellow wagon, which is powered by a six litre diesel automatic engine, has had its interior modified and now boasts a state of the art on board sound and light system. ![]() The retro interior The traditional metal seat rows have been ripped out and replaced with a retro silver and blue glitter vinyl sofa that runs around the inside walls. Small LCD screens sit just above head space so passengers can enjoy computer games or music videos and a stocked 70s style disco bar offers refreshments. Furthermore, a four piece rock band can plug their instruments into the mixing desk and perform a full live electric set on the bus! Novelty vehicles"I had the idea after reading about people buying these novelty vehicles such as hummers," Craig explains. ![]() Stepping off "I saw things like ambulances but it was a bit tacky for me. So I looked across to America and decided on the school bus. It's an internationally recognised iconic vehicle that everybody knows in countries all over the world due to all the films they've appeared in." Craig flew out to the States in 2007 to pick out the bus he wanted, making the purchase in New Jersey. "I was amazed at how good a condition it was in," he says. "It had come from California and the underneath was just so clean. I had to sort out shipping it over here and it took about six months to get the vehicle to the UK. ![]() 1999 GMC Bluebird "I spent the next six months making all the renovations and it was finally operational in December 2008. Taking into account the purchase of the bus, importing it and all the changes I've made, I'd say it's now worth about £100,000." Rent a busCraig now hires out the school bus, which can hit 55 mph, to those who want to travel to a special occasion in a slightly unusual manner! "It's been really popular so far with proms," he says. "But really I'll take you to any event you like. With the bar, computer screens, lights and retro feel, you can really have a good time. ![]() Craig behind the wheel "Thanks to the mixing desk you can plug in your instruments too and have a jam to really keep the party going. Really, the possibilities are endless."
