Summer Star Search: The final!

BBC WM have been scouring the West Midlands to discover hidden talent. Fourteen were chosen from the hundreds who auditioned. The final heat took place at the Robin 2 in Bilston, Saturday 14th July 2007. The winner is...

Dominic Malin a singer-songwriter from Essington in Wolverhampton has won BBC WM’s Summer Star Search.

Check back over the next few days for a more detailed report with photos. A short film featuring all of the acts and Dominic's full performance will be available to view here, too.

Fourteen talented acts made it through to BBC WM’s Summer Star Search finale show at the Robin 2 in Bilston on Saturday 14th July 2007.

Their performances were judged by BBC WM's Keith Beech (Station Editor), Richard Wilford, Jimmy Franks and Satnam Rana.

Phil Upton was the compere for the afternoon.

This summer BBC WM has been scouring the West Midlands to discover hidden talent. Singers, bands, dancers, comediennes and poets all took to the stage at the Summer Star Search auditions.

Wolverhampton

Four winners were chosen from BBC WM's auditions at West Park in Wolverhampton;

• Steven Swindells is a young Pianist from Dudley who is currently studying for his GCSE’s.

• Peter Mckee is a 31 year old singing driving instructor from Willenhall.

• Jadie Hampton is 15 year old singer from Tipton, and she’s in the middle of doing her GCSE’s.

• Dominic Malin is a 16 year old singer from Essington who enjoys playing the guitar. Dominic is currently studying for his GCSE’s.

Lichfield

Four winners were chosen from BBC WM's auditions at Lichfield Garrick;

• Alan Hazel is a 37 year old singer from Walsall who sings every year at the Lichfield Proms in the Park.

• 15 year old Alex Fisher is from Walsall Wood and attends Shire Oakes School. When he was 9 years old he was on Big Breakfast and he had his own record out, and he’s here now with his Little Britain impressions.

• Dawn Franks is a singer in her 60’s from Sutton Coldfield. Dawn got to the Midland finals of the Silver Stars talent contest for the over 60’s in 2004.

• Rebecca Jones is a 10 years old singer from Burntwood who goes to Holly Grove Primary School.

Birmingham

Three winners were chosen from BBC WM's auditions at the Crescent Theatre in Birmingham;

• Juliet Sharpe is a singer in her 40’s, she is a tarot reader from Handsworth.

• Richard Blackmore is a 20 year old singer and guitarist from Hall Green and Baby Ray is a 21 year old singer from Balsall Heath, add four other band members and that makes up their band ‘973’.

• Natalie Fisher-Bazan is a 16 year old singer from Moseley who has just done her GCSE’s.

Acocks Green

One winner was chosen from BBC WM's auditions at the Hall Green Little Theatre in Acocks Green, Birmingham;

• Vicky Gordon is a 16 year old singer from Tamworth, who’s just done her GCSE’s at Polesworth High School in Tamworth.

Walsall

One winner was chosen from BBC WM's auditions at the Forest Arts Centre in Walsall;

• Kimberley Smith is an 18 year old singer from Walsall, who loves acting and dancing and can also play the violin.

Dudley

One winner was chosen from BBC WM's auditions at the Rock the Castle Festival in Himley Park;

• JJK are a rock band made up of 16 year old Kristian Bayliss, 20 year old Jack Bentley, 18 year old Chris Haines, and 19 year old Jim Wassell, and they are all from Dudley.
