The fun and games started early in the day at the BBC in Birmingham. Several of the BBC WM radio presenters grabbed the chance to fulfil their childhood dreams - linking in with this year’s BBC Children in Need 2005 theme: ‘Be What You Want To Be’. In Brindleyplace there was an inflatable obstacle course where teams were competing against each other, as well as a Gladiator Duel and an Inflatable Pole for those daring enough to join in! At the Mailbox there was a real buzz, with Adrian Goldberg and Lindsay Doyle presenting the television inserts into the BBC Children in Need programme on BBC-1. The day started with consumer king Ed Doolan singing “If You Give Me Your Attention”, on his Mid-Morning Show at BBC WM - he's long been a Gilbert and Sullivan fan. Danny Kelly was a little more risque with his show - he had the male stripper "Reno" come down to The Mailbox. He has his long hair cut and styled by Jamie Bushall, from the Essensuals Salon - and yes we did pop a down to get a few pictures! Paul Franks was in Centenary Square presenting his Friday show - he'd dressed up as a bus conductor and was loaned a bus for the afternoon by Travel West Midlands. He was joined by lots of people who were dressed up had been fundraising for the appeal - even a look a like Pudsey Bear. On TV | | Ozzy Osbourne look a like |
Adrian Goldberg and Lindsey Doyle presented the BBC Birmingham TV inserts into the Children in Need Programme on BBC One. They dressed as Mark Anthony and Cleopatra. Loads of people came down to The Mailbox to join in the fun - and even those who were 'just passing through', got roped into the antics. The entertainment was varied, and there was a real sense of 'lets have fun'. Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne and Simon Cowell look-alikes kept the crowds amused; there was the ever popular Bollywood Dreams Dancers who gave a great performance; live music from the Octave Tinkling Twosome, featuring X-Factor reject Althea Gaye, and lots of activities for the 'Pudsey fans' to take part in. | | Pudsey by the Big Wheel |
The was a cheese and wine tasting which was popular with those going for a night out (and with one of the BBC security guards as you'll see from the pictures!) and a chance to have a go at sumo wresting with a giant an inflatable sumo wrestling suit. There was also hand painting, face-painting and a place where the kids could make things. And of course there was the all important Pudsey Bank - where people could come and deposite cash and cheques. Now take a look at the pictures..... |
