Watch: Explore Rio de Janeiro

Hi, I’m Freya.
We've been sent some photos from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
Let's take a look!
Let's explore Rio de Janeiro!
Freya: What are you looking at Rodge?
Rodge: I think your Uncle Bob is doing something sporty.
Freya: Oh yeah he is. He’s all the way across the Atlantic Ocean, in Brazil, which covers almost this whole side of South America.
Rodge: Is he trekking through the Amazon rainforest, or kayaking along the Amazon river?
Freya: No Rodge, he’s in Rio de Janeiro.
This all used to be covered in forest but now it’s a big city.
People come to live here from all around the world.
Rodge: And they mainly speak Portuguese. Even the city’s name ‘Rio de Janeiro’ is Portuguese.
Freya: He’s training for a special event.
Rodge: Awesome, I’ll train too!
Freya: Haha, ok.
First he surfs at Copacabana Beach, one of many beaches in Rio. It’s usually hot and sunny – but it can rain too!
Lots of people visit whilst on their holidays, especially on New Year’s Eve. And they can stay in those big hotels.
Next he plays football.
Rio has big hills around it covered in tropical forests and people have built houses there. But they still make room for football, which is their great love!
Rodge: Look you can even see the Maracanã Stadium. Brazil play football there.
Freya: Finally, he goes to Sugarloaf Mountain, which is one giant rock! Lots of people ride the cable car, but Uncle Bob runs to the top, so he can see the amazing sunset.
You can see the famous Christ the Redeemer statue, and the amazing natural harbour.
Rodge: Uurrgghhh!
Err, what are we training for though?
Freya: I thought you’d never ask.
He’s taking part in the Rio Carnival! People dress up in amazing costumes and play lots of Samba music.
Rodge: Feel the music Freya, it’s like we’re there!
Freya: Wait a second, I can hear something else too! I think Chippy is feeling the music! Hahaha.
