3D shapes are not flat shapes, they are solid shapes like a football or an ice cube.
Can you make yourself into a 3D shape?
Four people dressed as detectives walk past with magnifying glasses.
NARRATOR: This song is all about shapes. Not flat shapes like circles and squares, but solid shapes like cubes and cones. Let’s start with a cube. It’s difficult to make yourself into a cube, but give it a go - like this!
One of the girls leans forward with her arms out to try and look like a cube. An image of a cube appears. A boy with a magnifying glass starts to sing. Images of other cubes appear as they are mentioned in the song.
BOY:(singing) When I was looking for a shape, square on every side, I had a look, I found a cube as tall as it was wide.I found a sugar cube, a rubick’s cube, some painted wooden blocks. Some cubes of ice, a set of dice, a battered cardboard box.
GIRL 1: Now the next shape is a sphere. Try to make yourself into a sphere – a big ball!
The boy tries to make himself into a sphere shape, and an image of a sphere appears. The girl starts to sing and other spheres appear as she mentions them.
GIRL 1:(singing) When I was looking for a shape that is completely round, I saw a sphere over here, and this is what I found. I found a marble and a ball of wool, a football I could kick. The silver moon, the golden sun, an orange I could pick.
GIRL 2: Excellent, now try to make yourself into a cone. Reach up and turn around - great!
The girl tries to make herself into a cone shape, and an image of a cone appears. A second girl starts to sing and other cones appear as she mentions them.
GIRL 2:(singing) When I was looking for a shape, pointy at one end, I saw a cone, on its own, so I became its friend. I saw a Christmas tree, a party hat, an orange traffic cone. A way to hold your 99, a homemade megaphone.
GIRL 3: Now, the last one is a cylinder. Make yourself look like a tube - like this!
The second girl tries to make herself into a cylinder shape, and an image of a cylinder appears. A third girl starts to sing and other cylinders appear as she mentions them.
GIRL 3:(singing) When I was looking for a shape, round but also long I came upon a cylinder, a shape that’s really strong.I found a cylinder for holding crisps, a cylinder for glue. A cylinder for drinking juice, and one for in the loo.
ALL: Bye now, remember your shapes!

Try to match up the solid shape with it's shadow
