How many people are in your family?

There are … in my family.

There are four in my family — my mother, my father, my sister Aoife and myself included.

When talking about how many people are in your family in Irish, you use different words to count people than for counting things — duine amháin, beirt, triúr. Make sure to follow the rules when counting people.

Tá mé i mo chónaí le mo mhamaí/dhaidí.

Tá mo mháthair mhór ina cónaí linn.

Cá mhéad deartháir atá agat?

Tá deartháir amháin agam.

Tá beirt deartháireacha agam.

Tá triúr/ceathrar/cúigear deartháireacha agam.

I live with my Mum/Dad.

Our grandmother lives with us.

How many brothers do you have?
