Learn about inheritance.
Greetings, Emmett here!
Has anyone ever told you that you look like your parents?
That's because we inherit characteristics, or traits, from our parents like our eye colour, skin colour or height.
This is my dear mother and father.
I may look like my dad but I'm nowhere near as clumsy as he was.
And here's me, and my brothers and sisters.
We've all inherited key characteristics from our parents.
We all got big noses and curly hair.
We aren't exact copies of our parents.
We've all got differences or variations.
Meet my dogs - Beans and Toast.
Beans the labrador and Toast the poodle.
If these two had puppies, they make a labradoodle, and she's got a mix of characteristics from both her mum and dad.
But you don't get everything from your parents like your hairstyle!
Groovy!
Now, where are my dog biscuits?
Maybe clumsiness can be inherited after all!

Inheritance
When living things reproduce they pass on characteristics to their offspring. This is known as inheritance.
You’ve probably noticed that you might look like your parents. This is because you inherit key characteristics from them, like your eye colour, skin colour and height.
All living things produce offspring of the same kind, but normally offspring are not identical to their parents; there are variations that make them different.
For example, if you cross two different breeds of dog, you get a dog with a combination of characteristics. Some characteristics come from their mother and some from their father.
However, you don't inherit everything from your parents. For example things like hairstyle, scars and ear piercings.
