Common nouns are the names of things, that’s people, places or objects, while a proper noun is the name of a particular person, place or thing.
Proper nouns always begin with a capital letter, whereas common nouns don’t.
LEROY THE LIZARD MONSTER: (yawns) Oh! It’s you! Some people call me ‘a thing’. But I am Leroy, Leroy the Lizard Monster!
(growls) Leroy is my name. That’s a proper noun. Leroy. And so is Lizard Monster, that’s what I am. Leroy the Lizard Monster!
I live in a tree. That is a common noun.
And I love sleeping in my bed. Bed! That’s also a common noun! (yawns)

LEROY THE LIZARD MONSTER: I hate being woken by noisy people with chainsaws! Chainsaws is a common noun and I hate them!
