Look at other art work

It is fun to look at artwork that is already around and decide what you like and dislike.

You can also learn from other people’s thoughts on your own artwork.

Art is a learning process and we can get better at it with suggestions from our friends and teachers.

An art critic is someone who analyses and writes about art.

To critique a piece of art means using your careful judgment to give an opinion on its good and bad parts. So it's important to think about how you critique other peoples art work, especially your friends! Useful phrases that might help are:

  • I love how you used…
  • I wonder if next time you could…
  • I like the way you…
  • What would happen if you changed…

Art criticism means thinking about and talking about a work of art. Everyone can have an opinion and it doesn’t matter what age you are or how good you are at art.

Your turn!

You can work alone, in pairs or in a group to critique a piece of art.

Talk about what you are looking at. You can make notes too.

Remember to listen to other people’s ideas but also have your own unique opinion.
