Staying safe
Watch - Explore new words around safety and staying safe
It's break time at school but it's raining outside, so Daisy and Jasper are staying inside to play a game on their tablet. Can they have fun and stay safe at the same time?
Staying safe!
Through a window to the playground outside, rain is rolling down the window. There is the odd flash of lightning and thunder rumbles.
The school bell for break rings
That lightning looks dangerous, good job you’re safe inside.
The teacher pops a tablet on the desk which Jasper and Daisy gather over.
The tablet is showing a safety game..
And you have something to do.
Jasper reaches in and taps the start button and the game animations begin.
The goal is to get home, but how risky will you be with your choices.
The game graphics show a school gate with the children stood outside.
There are three selections which highlight as they are mentioned.
School has finished. Now, you have permission to walk with your friends and their parent, or you could go with the stranger?
Daisy selects the safe option.
Great choice! Most people are nice and friendly. But always stay safe with a grownup we trust.
The game graphics change to a busy road.
Nearly there! Just a busy road to cross.
Yes! Waiting for the traffic lights to go red. A red light signals traffic to stop. Responsible road crossing.
Hang on. A pop-up offering free money and prizes. That could be unsafe, like a computer virus.
The teacher comes over and takes the tablet from the children.
Don’t click, press or swipe that screen. The teacher can check if it’s safe.
The rain has stopped now and the sun comes out.
Oh look! The rain has stopped and it’s safe to go outside.
The children race outside and can be heard playing.
The teacher presses a button on the tablet to start a game.
