All animals and plants may look very different but all living things go through different stages in their life. We call this a life cycle.
Cal: Hello flowers. Oh wow! You’ve grown so tall! Look Bunny!
Bunny: Hey Cal. How did you get that here?
Cal: I grew it from a seed. Look.
Bunny: But that’s tiny!
Cal: I put it in the soil and watered it. And soon it sprouted into a seedling.
Bunny: Still tiny though.
Cal: But with more water, sun, fresh air and good soil it will grow leaves and a big flower bud. It then starts flowering and bees come to visit.
Bunny: What happened to this one?
Cal: This one has made some seeds! It will then die and the seeds will fall to the ground.
Bunny: Ahh! And now we’re back to little seeds that we can plant again to make new sunflowers.
Cal: And so life goes round in a circle. A life cycle.
Bunny: Oh cool! I get it Cal. Copy me!
I’m a little seed. Waiting to sprout.
Now I’m a seedling growing roots and shoots!
Now I’m growing tall, with leaves!
Now I’m flowering! Hello bees!
My flower is making seeds!
And we’re back to the start!
Cal: Haha Bunny! You’re so silly.
Bunny: I’m a little seed. Waiting to sprout.

The life cycle of a plant
Many plants grow out of seeds.
Seeds grow into seedlings with roots and shoots.
Roots and shoots then grow leaves above ground.
Many plants make flowers, which turn into fruits.
Flowers and fruits make their own seeds.
We call this a life cycle.
