"BBC Bitesize opened up my eyes to the career possibilities out there"

Meet dad Azarul, and his daughters Khadijah and Haajar. Azarul got in touch with us, telling us how the BBC Bitesize Careers website helped, not only his teaching, but both his daughters to find exciting job roles.

How Bitesize Careers impacted our family

From early on Azarul introduced Bitesize Careers to his secondary school classroom, supporting learners aged 11 to 16 and guiding them to available resources to help with their career aspirations. He shared that it has been just as important to show these resources to his children. As a teacher and a parent, Azarul says the Bitesize Careers website has had a positive effect on not only his student's futures, but his daughters' futures too.

Khadijah explained that her family lived abroad when she was growing up and she felt limited with the resources around her. When her parents discovered the BBC Bitesize Careers website, both Khadijah and her sister would sit down and watch videos of people's employment trajectory. This led her to finding Pauline’s story, who worked as a coder and developer, and helped inspire Khadijah's own tech-related passion in computer science.

It genuinely inspired me

Khadijah explained how hearing familiar accents on the Bitesize Careers website made her feel represented and at home, which inspired her to find her passion.

I’m super grateful for the impact they have had on my journey

She said how BBC Bitesize Careers planted the seed for her career in technology and she is now super excited to see how she advances and progressed.

Haajar did not want to go to university but was unsure on the different pathways she could take. After finding out what a degree apprenticeship was on the Bitesize Careers website, she knew it suited her best.

BBC Bitesize made a consistent and trustworthy resource that opened my eyes to the countless careers possibilities out there

Haajar explained how Bitesize Careers videos had such a big impact on her and her sister's outlook on jobs and their career paths.
