Stoke City challenges to help your child get active

Part ofParenting

We've got five fun physical activity challenges from Stoke City F.C. Community Trust for children to try on their own, or with family and friends this summer. Inside or outside, as long as you have space, they're all Pottermus approved!

In partnership with Premier League Primary Stars.

Slalom Challenge

How many times can you run around the slalom course in 60 seconds?

Line up four cones (or socks, old jumpers etc) and you have yourself a slalom course! Use your agility and dodge around each cone before running back to the start.

Create different challenge levels: add extra cones, increase the time limit, or try hopping or jumping around the course instead.

Bean Bag on the Move Challenge

If you haven't got a bean bag, use a soft toy or even a balled-up tea towel!

Set up three cones, numbering them 'one', 'two' and 'three'. Place the 'bean bag' on cone number two.

Start your timer, then run from cone one to cone two, pick up the bean bag, run to cone three, then place it there. Run back to cone one and start again - this time taking the bean bag from cone three to cone two and so on…

See how many times you can complete the circuit in 60 seconds!

Create different challenge levels: increase the time limit, increase the distance between the cones.

Double Jump Challenge

How quickly can you jump over the cones?

Set up four cones in a line on the floor, then jump over each one with your feet together. After that, run back to the start and repeat five times. Have a friend or family member use a phone or a stopwatch to keep time and make it a competition!

Create different challenge levels: increase the number of circuits, hop on one leg over the cones instead. Try to improve your personal best!

Hopscotch Challenge

How many times can you hop, skip and jump in 60 seconds?

Set up two cones, then hop, skip and jump (just like a triple jumper) between the two cones - see how many circuits you can do in 60 seconds. But remember to touch the cone with your hand each time.

Speed Catch Challenge

A simple one to finish - how many times can you catch a ball in 60 seconds?

Use a tennis ball, or something similar. Either throw it in the air, bounce it against a wall, or let a friend or family member throw it for you, then catch it. Easy! So, how many catches can you squeeze into one minute?

Create different challenge levels: increase the time limit, increase the height or distance you are catching it from. Try to improve your personal best!

Remember to drink water and breathe slowly, so you can recover after a burst of activity!

Premier League Primary Stars uses the appeal of the Premier League and professional football clubs to inspire children to learn, be active and develop important life skills.
