Where is Northern Ireland?
- Northern Ireland is one of the four countries of the United Kingdom.
- It is on the island of Ireland with the Republic of Ireland, which is a separate country.
- Northern Ireland has coasts on the Irish Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

What is Northern Ireland's capital city?
- The capital of Northern Ireland is Belfast. It is by far the largest city in Northern Ireland. It is about four times as large as the next biggest, Derry/Londonderry.
- Belfast is an important port. Ferries travel to Liverpool and ships carry goods.
- It was also a centre for shipbuilding. The ocean liner, Titanic, was built there along with lots of other big ships.

Famous landmarks in Northern Ireland

- The largest freshwater lake in the UK is in Northern Ireland. It is called Lough Neagh.
- The highest mountain peak is Slieve Donard in the Mourne Mountains.
- On the north coast is the Giant’s Causeway. It is made of thousands of rocky columns that were formed by an ancient volcano!
- A famous tourist attraction is the long rope bridge at Carrick-a-Rede. It goes to a tiny island. It was first built by fishermen nearly 300 years ago!

One - But really, the Giant's Causeway used to be a pool of hot, melted rock. When it cooled down, the rocks cracked and made these amazing columns.
