Notes for parents
After watching the video, students will be able to:
- learn the term 'y drefn gweithrediadau' (order of operations)
- understand that there is a specific order to follow to solve this kind of sum
- understand the need to multiply and divide parts of the sum first, then tackle the addition and subtraction from left to right, in order to complete the sum
Y drefn gweithrediadau
O'r chwith i'r dde, dechreua gyda'r rhannu a lluosi ac wedyn symud ymlaen i'r adio a thynnu.
Cofia, os yw rhannu neu luosi yn rhan o'r swm, gwna nhw o'r chwith i'r dde. Does dim ots am y drefn. Mae'r rheol yr un peth ar gyfer yr adio a thynnu.
The order of operations
From left to right, start with division and multiplication and continue with addition and subtraction.
Don't forget, if a calculation has division and multiplication in it, do them left to right. It doesn't matter which order they are in. The same applies to addition and subtraction.

If there are brackets in the calculation, you must do the part inside the brackets first. It doesn't matter if it's division, multiplication, addition or subtraction.
- (20 + 1) ÷ 7 =
- 10 ÷ 2 + (5 × 2) =
