Notes for parents

After watching the video, students will know the following.

• *To multiply by 10, you must move the number one column to the left (to the tens column) and then fill the other columns (the units columns) with 0. **For example: 4 multiply by 10 is 40 because we have moved the 4 one column to the left (to the tens column) and filled the remaining column (units column) with 0. *
• To multiply with 100, you must move the number two columns to the left and fill the remaining columns with 0. For example: 4 multiplied by 100 is 400 because we have moved the 4 two columns to the left (to the hundreds column) and filled the remaining columns with 0 (the tens and the units columns).
• To divide, you must do the opposite. To divide by 10, you must move the numbers one column to the right. To divide by 100, you must move the numbers two columns to the right. Remember to fill the remaining columns with 0.
• *If you multiply by 1, the number stays the same. *
• *If you multiply by 0, the answer is always 0. *
